Crimson Tide

I like intense movies. Spy Game is my all-time favorite film, but Crimson Tide--which was also directed by Tony Scott--has been a longtime fave, and I can identify with both of the main characters who are in conflict with each other.

In one scene of Crimson Tide, the U.S. submarine captain, played flawlessly by Gene Hackman, gives a pep talk to his crew and says, "All I ask is that you keep up with me!" I've had my share of substandard coworkers and people who try to undermine my knowledge and experience.

On the other hand, I can relate to Denzel Washington's character because I prefer to do things properly, ethically, by the book, and not half-ass and not assume anything. I've sometimes been at odds with managers and left frustrated.

Crimson Tide is an intriguing and realistic study in human behavior.

The film also has one of my favorite scores by Hans Zimmer. Tony Scott's direction was instrumental in making not just one of the best submarine films but an exceptional movie, period.

Denzel Washington was outstanding, but I think the real standout was Gene Hackman, who was exceptional in the film. In my opinion, it's his most memorable performance, and surprisingly, he didn't get any nominations and awards for it, which is criminal.

This is my favorite scene from Crimson Tide that was pivotal to the whole film . . .
