The Apostle

Whenever I see Robert Duvall in a movie, I'm reminded what an exceptional actor he is, even when he's doing minor roles, like in Widows.

But I think his most unforgettable performance was when he played a Southern preacher in The Apostle, which he also wrote and directed. I love the main character because he's so flawed, yet he still tries to do good. And the backdrop of rural Texas and Louisiana almost seems to transport you into another world.

Duvall rightfully got multiple nominations for his role in the film, but I've always thought he got robbed of an Oscar for Best Actor.

But no matter. Robert Duvall has accumulated so many nominations and awards over the decades--going as far back as for The Godfather in 1972--it's not like he needs any more help with his career.
