Kill Command

I'm always on the hunt for a movie gem. It could be for any genre, but I find science fiction the most fascinating and satisfying.

Today, independent filmmakers have access to visual effects technology that would have been cost prohibitive to them many years ago.

Nowadays, not only can they use VFX as a powerful tool to help tell their stories, but they can also make movies that can visually rival some of the biggest and most expensive movies from the major studios.

One such gem is Kill Command, an independent British film with a premise similar to the Terminator movies about robots becoming intelligent and start killing humans.

But unlike James Cameron's storyline, in which we only learn that the machines suddenly become self-aware, Kill Command has an interesting, plausible explanation on how the robots reach a higher level of intelligence.

Released in 2016, Kill Command has mainly unknown actors, although, interestingly, I've started seeing its lead actor, Vanessa Kirby, appear in big productions like Netflix's The Crown, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and now the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff, Hobbs and Shaw.

You don't need bankable stars to make a movie successful. You may be surprised what can be achieved with a limited budget, as I was with Kill Command.
