Transformers

When Steven Spielberg approached him about directing the first live-action Transformers film, Michael Bay initially wasn't interested, thinking it would be a "stupid toy movie".

But Bay later visited Hasbro, co-creator of the Transformers, to gain more insight about the alien robots, and he turned out to be the right person for the director's job.

With the right balance of exemplary action, drama, and comedy, The Transformers movie from 2007 is a must-see and has earned my 5-star rating. And with Industrial Light & Magic's amazing visual effects work, watching Autobots and Decepticons battle each other never gets old.

There have been a few Transformers sequels since, but the ones I like the most are the second and third installments. In fact, Revenge Of The Fallen is essentially part two that continues the storyline of the first film, and Dark Of The Moon is a worthy sequel that could have been a standalone film.

In comparison, the remaining two Transformers movies, Age Of Extinction and The Last Knight, are not bad, but they're my least favorite. But regardless of the movie--despite being about fighting machines--I've appreciated how the Transformer films always encompass humanistic stories.

Now I can add Bumblebee to the list of highly recommended films, and if this prequel is any indication, the Transformers franchise could perhaps return to its glory of the first film.
