Fed Up

A long time ago, my sister used to tell me all the time how sugar can make you fat. It sounded so absurdly ridiculous because I couldn't surmise how the two could possibly be related, so I didn't believe her. Back then, I didn't have the luxury of the Internet to easily research and fact check.

Fast forward many years later, and I was made embarrassingly aware that she was right all along.

As beautiful and good-looking as I am, I am technically overweight, but far from being obese. Obesity had become a hot topic in the news media, who blame soft drinks, in particular, for the epidemic. But yet you usually don't hear about the simple reason why: When your body has too much sugar, your liver converts it to fat.

I can't say a lot of people or things have had a positive impact on my life, but a documentary film about how food companies were contributing to obesity in America was a game changer for me. It made me a lot more conscientious about what I eat, and as a result, I learned to better manage my weight. Narrated by Katie Couric, Fed Up is a real eye-opener and should be seen by every American.
