Red Tails

George Lucas is credited for creating two of the greatest movie franchises ever, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but there are other commendable, lesser known films he made under the Lucasfilm moniker.

One of his most underrated films is Red Tails about the Tuskegee Airmen, a U.S. military group of Black pilots and crew members during World War II. Led by an all-star cast (David Oyelowo, Terence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr.) and based on true events during a time of segregation, the movie tells a story of how some of these men overcame bigotry and racism for a country they were serving.

George Lucas' wife is African American. There's certainly been progress in the last several decades, but considering today's political climate and attitudes, we still have some ways to go.

Like Martin Luther King Jr. said, "We've learned to fly the air like birds. We've learned to swim the seas like fish. And yet we haven’t learned to walk the earth like brothers and sisters."
