If they can afford them, I think every filmmaker would love to have a bankable star in their movie. So I was a bit surprised to see an unknown in the lead role of the big-budget sci-fi disaster film, The Core, from 2003.
The Core is the first movie I had ever seen with Aaron Eckhart. And good for him, he went on to play significant roles in other major films, like The Dark Knight and, another one of all-time favorites, Battle: Los Angeles.
Heroes in movies don't have to don masks or have superhuman abilities. At first, The Core starts off as your typical disaster film, but after a while, it goes to deep depths with characters who manifest the utmost courage and sacrifice.
