The Matrix

If you were to ask me, "Ted, Movie Buff Extraordinaire, what's your favorite film series?" and think I would reply, "The original Star Wars trilogy, of course", you'd be wrong.

Even with a myriad of film franchises--Terminator, Rocky, Fast & Furious, Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, Alien, and so on--you'd think it may be hard to choose a favorite, but it's actually not.

Even though Star Wars and Star Trek are two of my most beloved movie franchises, I consider Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy to be among the very best.

But the best of them all, in my opinion, is The Matrix trilogy. With production issues and mixed reviews for the sequels, I don't think this film series has gotten the recognition it deserves.

I always say to fully appreciate and understand most film series, you have to watch the films successively. And this could not be truer with the Matrix films.
The Matrix, which came out in 1999, was so ahead of its time with the Wachowskis' writing and visionary directing, complemented by the innovative camera work and anime-inspired visuals and action. Sum this with an outstanding cast, and you have one of the greatest science fiction epic films ever.
