When you're disruptive and successful, naturally, there will be some people who will want to see you fail.

I was among Netflix's first customers, back when they were only renting DVD movies by mail with paperboard mailers (not those flimsy paper ones) and disc rentals were about $5 apiece.

Fast forward about two decades later, and Netflix has established themselves a major movie powerhouse with multiple award nominations and wins under their belt. Understandably, there are members of the Hollywood community who don't like how this company, based in Northern California, is disrupting the traditional ways of movie distribution.

But change is inevitable. Netflix has been cranking out some good films that have even attracted A-list actors. The Highwaymen, Triple Frontier, Close, and Spectral are a few that get my recommendations.

But of all the Netflix original films I've seen so far, my top choice is the futuristic science fiction thriller, Anon, starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried. It's a timely movie about privacy, delving into alternate realities.

Anon could be mistaken for a film based on a Philip K. Dick story, but it's from writer-director Andrew Niccol, who also wrote and directed the sci-fi classic, Gattaca, with Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.

Hollywood and Netflix can battle it out as long as they want, and as long as there is quality content that is available for consumption--like Anon--and competing for your dollars, it is the movie-going consumer who ultimately wins.
