Purple Rain

If someone's life is interesting enough to make a movie about, then it's hard to go wrong with a biographical film. Hollywood has been putting out successful biopics lately, and sooner or later, there's bound to be one for Prince.

It would be criminal not to have a biopic for one of the greatest music artists of all time.

But until then, Purple Rain was loosely based on Prince's life. These are a few key things from the film that are factual:
  • First Avenue is a real nightclub in Minnesota, and it's where Prince would try out new song material. In fact, "Purple Rain" from the soundtrack album is an edited version of a live performance that was recorded at First Avenue in 1983, a year before the movie's release.
  • Prince's father was a musician.
  • There was a real rivalry between Morris Day and Prince.
Prince had an interesting explanation on the significance of the color purple:

"When there's blood in the sky – red and blue equals purple . . . Purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/God guide you through the purple rain."
