Man of Steel

When Hollywood celebrities are in public, it's the actors, directors, and, occasionally, producers that we usually see and hear about, but the screenplay will always be the heart of the film.

Screenwriters don't get enough attention and recognition. After all, all movies begin with their stories, characters, and dialogue, many of which have become so successful they are found in today's pop culture and Internet memes. So it shouldn't be any surprise that some of the best filmmakers have written their own films, like George Lucas, James Cameron, and Christopher Nolan.

David S. Goyer may not be a household name, but some of his story and screenwriting credits include the Dark Knight and Blade films. Not only is he a master storyteller, but I think one of his greatest strengths is writing dialogue. And that's why he's my favorite screenwriter.

Written by David Goyer, Man Of Steel is fundamentally a remake of Superman II with Christopher Reeve, but Goyer added his ideas and elements to enhance the original narrative. Because of its complex storyline, it took me a few viewings to fully understand and appreciate Man Of Steel. And now I consider it one of the greatest superhero films of all time. A lot of the credit goes to producer Christopher Nolan, director Zack Snyder, and the cast, but I believe David Goyer deserves equally as much.

This trailer for Man of Steel presents some of Goyer's best work . . .
