The Game

Some of David Fincher's best-known works include Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network, House Of Cards, and he even directed Michael Jackson's "Who Is It" music video. But one of Fincher's lesser-known films, The Game, will always be among my favorites.

Starring Michael Douglas, The Game is one of those movies I've seen many times, but I would pick up details missed in previous viewings. The movie is far from being a comedy, but it has a lot of humor without trying to be funny if that makes sense.

Films are often about ordinary people finding themselves in extraordinary situations, so it's kind of unusual to have a movie's "hero" be an investment banker, although The Game did come out in '97.

Set in San Francisco, the intelligent and very original thriller spotlights how someone so wealthy and powerful can be vulnerable, flawed, and helpless like everyone else.
Michael Douglas is a naturally exceptional actor, and his Oscar-worthy performance in The Game is among the best since he won multiple Best Actor awards for Wall Street.
