Doing the right thing should not result in repercussions. I don't think I've ever heard the term whistleblower used as many times as in recent days. All of the news coverage has reminded me about one of my all-time favorite films, The Insider.
Directed by Michael Mann and starring Russell Crowe and Al Pacino, The Insider is ultimately about two guys fighting a Big Tobacco company, and, of course, the odds are against them.
Earning numerous awards and nominations, including Best Picture, it's a white-collar underdog movie with outstanding dramatical performances, and it's based on actual events.
Further, The Insider serves as a dismal warning on how the court of public opinion can be easily manipulated. The problem has gotten worse with some of today's news media and foreign influences. This should be a wake-up call with a call to action. Now more than ever, people need to keep their bullshit filter on and in top working order.
