13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

For me, it all started with the 1996 movie The Rock. Sure, it had Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery, and Ed Harris, and it was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, but who the heck was this director named Michael Bay?!

Not too long after, Michael Bay had become one of the leading filmmakers in Hollywood with his own signature style of spectacular special effects, slow-motion, and beautiful cinematography.

Bay became synonymous with big-budget blockbuster movies, like Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, and he and Steven Spielberg launched the Transformers film series, which is one of my favorites.

Surely, there will be more Michael Bay films I will be showcasing in MOVIE OF THE WEEK, but for Veterans Day, it would be most appropriate to select 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi.

Michael Bay has always shown respect for the U.S. military, as seen in his films. Even though he may be known for fun, sometimes over the top action movies, Michael Bay gave a seriously gritty look at the 2012 attack at the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya.

Without getting political, it seems the main objective of the film was to show the nightmarish and grueling events the American servicemen had to endure that night when others would not come to their aid.

And if that was the goal, Michael Bay, who directed and produced 13 Hours, achieved it handily. Most of all, it brings to light, again, the bravery and the sacrifices of the members of the U.S. armed forces and their families.
