Geostorm

As a public servant, Al Gore brought up issues about the environment and global warming way back in the 1970s--long before the revival of Earth Day and the resurgence of environmental awareness in the 1990s.

I've sometimes wondered what would happen if Al Gore was a Republican. Would Democrats and liberals then become climate change skeptics and deniers? Can there be productive bipartisan discussions about what so many perceive as a world problem?

Even though it refers to global warming, Geostorm is not a political movie. Still, I've always had a suspicion that politics may have kept some moviegoers away from seeing the film.

Starring Gerard Butler and Jim Sturgess, Geostorm has science fiction and plenty of action, but it's mostly a thriller with a lot of heart.

Dean Devlin may not be a familiar name, but he produced and co-wrote the high-grossing hit films Independence Day and Stargate.

Geostorm is Dean Devlin's directorial debut, and it's a shame it got panned by critics and audiences because the movie is highly entertaining with an impeccable cast, and it's so well-written and directed. In fact, I consider Geostorm as good as similar worldwide disaster films, including Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.
