Looper

Science fiction has got to be one of the hardest things to write. In addition to telling a story and creating compelling characters, you have to imagine a whole world with its own jargon, technologies, and, occasionally, alien races. Think Star Trek and Star Wars universes.

Written and directed Rian Johnson (Knives Out, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Looper--the movie that introduced me to one of my favorite actresses, Emily Blunt--is looking to be a sci-fi classic.

There's no doubt that time travel is a popular subject among science fiction storytellers, but Looper takes this staple of the genre and applies how the Mob would use the technology in the future.

What makes Looper uniquely special is, within a great sci-fi action film, there's an underlying moral theme about love and parenting.
