Contagion

The news media can be a source of stupidity. I roll my eyes and shake my head whenever I hear people, especially doctors, recommend washing your hands to prevent illnesses.

If you're talking in close proximity with someone who is carrying an airborne disease, no amount of handwashing is going to reduce your risk of getting ill. I wash my hands all the time and still have gotten sick with the cold and flu.

In one episode of The Mythbusters, it was discovered that a droplet from a sneeze traveled as far as 17 feet.

I can see the reasoning for washing your hands and not touching your face, but covering your mouth with your elbow when you cough and sneeze would go much further than simply washing your hands.

Even still, Contagion is an excellent horror film, and not in the traditional sense. Hollywood has made some films about epidemics (e.g., Outbreak), but Contagion is one plausible and realistic portrayal of a pandemic.

Under the direction by Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Traffic, the Ocean's film series), the 2011 film features a super all-star cast that includes Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, and Jude Law.

With current events surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, Contagion is virtually life imitating art, and what's scary is that we're only partway through the story.
