Now that Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker is out on video, I want to do a Special Edition of Ted's MOVIE OF THE WEEK.
You're probably sitting there on your IKEA couch, asking, "Ted, what's the best order to watch all the Star Wars films?"
For the first two trilogies, I've always recommended the Ernst Rister order: Episodes IV, V, I, II, III, VI (after learning about Luke's father in The Empire Strikes Back, you go into the backstory of Anakin Skywalker).
With the spin-off films Rogue One and Solo, things are not as straightforward now, and I've heard differing opinions about which order to best view all the movies.
After much thought and consideration, I now recommend the following order:
Solo: A Star Wars Story actually takes place between Episodes III and IV, and you'll appreciate the references made in other films, but it doesn't really contribute to the narrative of the three trilogies. That's why I would watch Solo first to "get it out of the way" because if you watch it anywhere else, it seems out of place and interrupts the storyline about the Skywalker family and Emperor Palpatine.
