The Death Of Stalin

Even though I dropped out of college, history remains a fascinating subject to me.

Years from now, there will be books and films about the pandemic of 2020.  The death toll numbers are nothing to joke about, but there is enough material primed for a political satire given the gross mishandling of the response to the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. and some of the absurdity surrounding the pandemic, e.g., calling it a hoax, conspiracy theories.

Speaking of satire, The Death Of Stalin was a recommended movie that I also highly recommend, even if you're not a history buff.

The film is a satirical view of the events following the passing of the Soviet Union dictator in 1953. There is no doubt there were atrocities with Stalin's regime and its supporters, but a few scenes in this historical spoof were so hilarious they had me laughing so hard.

The Death Of Stalin exemplifies that in times of rampant uncertainty, dysfunctionality, weak leadership, hypocrisy, greed, and abuse of power, there can still be voices of logic and reason. Sound familiar?

Healthcare issues that impact entire populations should never be politicized. What kind of a society have we become when we undermine and ignore the collective warnings of scientists and medical professionals?

Future generations can learn from today's mistakes, but history has this bad habit of repeating itself. Hence, the future of humankind may very well lie in the hands of those who question the status quo and who are not so ignorant and easily manipulated.

There is a plethora of political opinions on the Internet, but sometimes we just need to see satires to give us fresh perspectives that make us ponder about ourselves and our behaviors. Maybe, just maybe, there will be a satirical film about all the events revolving around COVID-19, which I can imagine to be akin to The Death Of Stalin.
