Killing Gunther

Killing Gunther is one of the funniest movies I've seen in recent years. It's about some assassins going after one target à la Smokin' Aces and John Wick, but it adds a twist with its documentary film shooting style.

Killing Gunther was promoted as an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, but he actually doesn't appear towards the end of the film. Still, this is perhaps his best action comedy performance since True Lies.

Comedian Taran Killam wrote and directed Killing Gunther with himself in the lead role. Uncoincidentally, his wife in real life, Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill from the Marvel Cinematic Universe), is also in the movie.

Assassins have become kind of a movie cliché, but as long as screenwriters come up with well-written characters, dialogue, and action, I won't get tired of these movies. The eccentricity of contract killers in some films make them primed for over-the-top antics, but Killing Gunther goes all-out comedy with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the title role.
