Welcome To The Jungle

Lord Of The Flies was one of many novels I had to read in school. Published in 1954, the book by William Golding is about a group of boys who get stranded on an island. Without any adults around, they try to survive and govern on their own, and it all goes downhill from there.

The novel's themes about power and control, mob mentality, and primal behavior were parodied in a satirical comedy with Jean-Claude Van Damme. In Welcome To The Jungle, a group of employees go on a team-building venture on an island, and things turn for the worse when the pilot of their plane dies.

Welcome To The Jungle is an underappreciated comedy about working in the corporate world, and it's certainly atypical for Jean-Claude Van Damme to be in a comical role. It does get a little weird when the movie parodies Lord Of The Flies.  If you've read the book, you'll appreciate the satire even more.

As the film and the story that inspired it illustrates, human behavior can be ugly and dispiriting, but at the same time, we can determine our destiny and not let others choose it for us. Even when the subject matter is serious like this, Welcome To The Jungle still delivers the laughs and is highly recommended.
