Shadow is a groundbreaking epic movie that innovates the martial arts action genre. Even with its mostly black and white color palette, Shadow is one of the most beautiful-looking films, and the intriguing story and brilliant dialogue are just as captivating as the film's visuals.
Shadow takes place in ancient China and is about a military commander who was severely wounded in battle. He and his wife use an impostor ("shadow") to take his place while the real commander remains hidden from the rest of the kingdom.
Shadow should have been a contender for Best International Feature Film. Many Asian films deserve recognition, but, in my opinion, Shadow is a modern cinematic masterpiece.
