Suicide Squad

This is probably blasphemous, but I think I like Justice League more than Avengers: Endgame. Both films are similar in that they involve a supervillain trying to find objects to destroy worlds, but to me, Justice League has a slightly more satisfying and compelling story that follows the death of Superman.

Nonetheless, I've been a fan of both Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Extend Universe (DCEU). The Dark Knight trilogy is still a gold standard for superhero films, but I consider Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with its superb script, action fight sequences, and direction by the Russo Brothers, one of the greatest films ever, and not just in the superhero genre. Notably, the Russo Brothers also directed Avengers: Endgame, along with other MCU films.

Before seeing Zack Snyder's Justice League, I watched the previous DCEU films--Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition), and Suicide Squad. (I didn't rewatch Wonder Woman because I've seen it twice now, and it was still fresh in my mind. That said, you must see the first Wonder Woman film to recognize and appreciate the film's references in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.)

Suicide Squad doesn't get talked about much now, but I think it's a very underappreciated film based on DC Comics characters. The anti-hero movie was written and directed by another of my favorite filmmakers, David Ayer, who wrote Training Day. The more times I've seen Suicide Squad, the more I just like it.

A witch seems like an unconventional comic book villain, but Enchantress is an actual character from DC Comics. With an outstanding ensemble cast that includes Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis, Suicide Squad has humor, fantastic action, and, of course, very colorful but grounded characters.

Suicide Squad: Extended Cut adds about 11 minutes of footage, but it's mostly extensions of other scenes. However, a few parts add depth and insight to certain characters, like Harley Quinn and Diablo, so I would still recommend the Extended Cut over the theatrical version.

DC superhero films have a reputation for being dark compared to Marvel's, but Suicide Squad interjects several jokes that make the movie fun to watch. DC Films has not made as many movies and has not been as widely successful as Marvel Studios, but that's not to say their films' quality is any less top-notch. The upcoming sequel, The Suicide Squad, is written and directed by James Gunn of the hugely popular Guardians of the Galaxy films and is supposed to come out later this year. But until then, Suicide Squad from 2016 is certainly worth checking out again.
