Battlestar Galactica (1978)

For Christmas, I want the Battlestar Galactica - The Definitive Collection on Blu-ray. This mega-set includes both the OG and revamped classic TV series, all the movies, and even Caprica. I grew up on the original BSG series from the late '70s, but it has been overshadowed by the darker series from the Syfy Channel.

Glen A. Larson may not be a household name, but he's the creator of the original Battlestar Galactica and other hit TV shows from the 1980s, including The Fall Guy and Knight Rider. Interestingly, Battlestar Galactica was released in theaters in 1978 but was also a TV pilot. The latter has scenes that differ from the theatrical version.

Of course, it's been compared to Star Wars, but Battlestar Galactica, too, has its memorable characters and ultra-cool spaceships. Above all, Battlestar Galactica is one of the greatest stories ever told.

For an old film, Battlestar Galactica has an excellent diverse cast that includes Jane Seymour and one of my childhood crushes, Maren Jensen as Athena. But the best, in my opinion, was Lorne Greene, who was perfectly cast as Commander Adama.

People may have forgotten the original Battlestar Galactica, but it's still dear to my heart, and as an adult, I appreciate it even more now. Beyond question, the film is a sci-fi classic and deserves a "special edition" treatment.
