Edge of Tomorrow

When I saw Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, it was like love at first sight. But in actuality, I remembered first seeing the British actress mostly in Looper. In Edge of Tomorrow, Emily Blunt has a more prominent role, playing opposite Tom Cruise in the sci-fi action thriller.

I recently watched The Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt, and although it was good, it was kind of a rip-off of Edge of Tomorrow. The title, The Tomorrow War, is almost like a "wink" or homage to the 2014 Tom Cruise film directed by action filmmaker Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity).

Tom Cruise plays the unlikely hero, and unlike most alien invasion movies, Edge of Tomorrow cleverly intertwines a love story between the two main characters. Cruise is already a great actor, but I particularly appreciate his performance for his character's arc.

There have been numerous alien invasion movies, and although Independence Day is perhaps the most successful, there have been plenty of other notable films in the subgenre. I showcased Battle: Los Angeles in Ted's MOVIE OF THE WEEK, and indeed, there'll be more. Edge of Tomorrow is also among my favorites, and having the late Bill Paxton, who often steals scenes in movies, is a bonus for entertainment.
