You may not generally think of Russia making Hollywood-type big production movies, but I've been surprisingly impressed with the quality of films coming out of that country--and other countries, for that matter.
The first time I saw The Blackout, it was dubbed in English, and as mentioned before, I'm not a fan of watching dubbed films. Nevertheless, I liked the movie so much that I got it on Blu-ray. Moreover, it allowed me to watch the film in the original Russian language with English subtitles.
While alien invasion movies have typically taken place in the present day, The Blackout is more futuristic. The Blackout is not just a cool-ass, special effects-heavy action film. With superb directing and script, I'm surprised the Russian movie was not widely released in theaters internationally.
