Red Lights

When I was a little kid, I was captivated by unexplained phenomena, like paranormal activity, UFOs, and the Bermuda Triangle. Decades ago, one may be laughed at and ridiculed for believing such things. Now, thanks partly to the Internet, you hear about UFOs and paranormal phenomena all the time. Think TV shows like The X-Files and Ghost Hunters.

As a grown-up, I'm not interested in such phenomena like in my youth, but they're still fascinating subjects nevertheless. I featured Fire In The Sky in Ted's MOVIE OF THE WEEK a few years ago, which is based on actual events surrounding an alien abduction in a small Arizona town.

Red Lights is another excellent film that takes a realistic, scientific look into the supernatural from an academic perspective. Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy play skeptical scientists specializing in the field, while Robert De Niro is a renowned psychic with incredible magical abilities, like bending spoons.

As with so many other independent films, Red Lights came and went, with most people hardly noticing it, despite having award-winning actors. That's a shame because Red Lights is a proven movie gem, regardless of whether you believe in the supernatural or not.
