Vantage Point

Despite earning several accolades and being in over a hundred movies, it always seems William Hurt was an underrated actor. Like some great actors, William Hurt played more supporting parts than lead roles. He's been in iconic and lesser-known films, like The Big Chill and The Last Full Measure, and even had a recurring role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In honor of William Hurt, I wanted to showcase Endgame this week, a superb film about ending apartheid in South Africa. Unfortunately, Endgame is currently not available anywhere on any streaming service.

Not so coincidentally, Endgame was directed by Pete Travis, who also directed William Hurt in Vantage Point. Because Travis is an excellent action director, Vantage Point is intense with scenes that still give me chills. Travis also directed Dredd (not to be confused with Judge Dredd), which has been under consideration for my prestigious 5-star rating.

Vantage Point is a very underappreciated action thriller with a clever way of storytelling. The movie is like a cross between Groundhog Day and In The Line Of Fire, and its story revolves around a political assassination and bombing that is retold from, well, various vantage points.

William Hurt plays the U.S. President and is accompanied by a star-studded cast ensemble, including Dennis Quaid, Sigourney Weaver, and Forest Whitaker.

With so many movies in his career, time and time again, William Hurt has proven he's an exceptional actor. It may not be the film for which he is best known, but Vantage Point comes very highly recommended.

Rest in peace, William Hurt.
