Cop Land

Like some great, scene-stealing actors, Ray Liotta took on primarily supporting roles. Still, the New Jersey native appeared in over seventy films, not to mention his many TV roles. Ray Liotta is widely known for portraying the real-life mobster Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese's classic Goodfellas, but my favorite film with the award-winning actor is Cop Land.

Excellently written and directed by James Mangold (Walk The Line, 3:10 To Yuma, Ford v Ferrari), Cop Land is a crime drama about a police precinct in the NYPD that finds itself in deadly predicaments. Sylvester Stallone leads an exceptional cast that also includes Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, Robert Patrick, and Annabella Sciorra. Incidentally, Ray Liotta and his Goodfellas co-star Robert De Niro are both in Cop Land, but they don't have any scenes together.

Cop Land is one of my favorite police dramas ever, and it's not often you get to see such a sizeable all-star cast ensemble in a movie. I always appreciated the authenticity Ray Liotta brought to his acting. At age 67, Ray Liotta is another great actor gone too soon, and, sadly, there won't be any more movies to watch his incredible acting. While you can see his work in plenty of movies and television shows, Cop Land is an absolute must-see.

Rest in peace, Ray Liotta.
