AVP: Alien vs. Predator

When I first saw an Alien vs. Predator comic book cover many years ago, I remember thinking, "Wow, this would make a cool movie." The cover showed the two aliens facing each other from a side view. A few years later, 20th Century Fox released AVP: Alien vs. Predator, or simply Alien vs. Predator, in 2004. The movie studio owned the film franchises of the iconic alien characters, so it makes sense they created one of the coolest crossover films ever.

The cast comprises primarily unknowns, but Lance Henriksen semi-reprised his role as Charles Weyland, the industrialist who was an inspiration for Bishop in Aliens. Like in Alien, Alien vs. Predator has a strong female lead character, and while Sanaa Lathan is no Sigourney Weaver, I think she's perfectly cast for the part and held her own very well.

Predators with Adrien Brody, which I featured in Ted's MOVIE OF THE WEEK, is hands down still my top favorite Predator sequel. AVP was not a massive hit with critics and audiences, but, ironically, the original writer-producer team of Alien and one of the producers of Predator, John Davis, were involved with Alien vs. Predator. That said, the film certainly deserves another look.
