Crossing Over

Usually, when there's a huge Hollywood star in a film, the movie gets heavily promoted, so, many years ago, I was surprised to stumble upon Crossing Over with Harrison Ford because I had never heard about it before.

While immigration has been in the news, Crossing Over came out in 2009, and it's as relevant now as it was back then. And it's not just about immigrants coming through the Mexico border. A lot like Disconnect, Crossing Over is about different sets of characters with their own stories and struggles, and Harrison Ford plays an officer from ICE, yes, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. In addition to Ford, the outstanding cast includes Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Jim Sturgess (Upside Down), and a then-unknown Mahershala Ali (Green Book).

While you often hear about immigration in the news media from the outside looking in, Crossing Over gives different views and perspectives. Empathy seems increasingly lacking in an already heartless and tone-deaf world, but a film like Crossing Over reminds us that immigrants are just like everyone else, human beings.
