Jurassic Park III

For the past few days, John Williams' "Theme from Jurassic Park" has been ringing in my head. Jurassic Park was so technically revolutionary for the movie industry, and for the upcoming Jurassic World Dominion, I recently watched all the previous Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films.

I will never forget my experience at the theater when I first saw the Brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park. I was so blown away, seeing all the details in the dinosaur's skin texture and muscle movements, and the simulated lighting made the scene so realistic.

While computer-generated visual effects were nothing new in movies in 1993, Jurassic Park was one of the films that demonstrated how far and mature the technology had come. It was truly groundbreaking for VFX, and the credit goes to Dennis Muren and Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic--the OGs who did the visual effects for the original Star Wars.

Bringing back old characters for a sequel is not enough for the film to succeed. While the Jurassic Park sequels were financially successful, they were not as well-received as the first film.

And unlike the first two movies, which were based on novels by Michael Crichton and directed by Steven Spielberg, Jurassic Park III was based on an original screenplay, and filmmaker Joe Johnston (Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, The Rocketeer, Jumanji) took the helm as director.

You can do so much about theme parks with cloned dinosaurs, so I've always appreciated how every new Jurassic film came out with excellent new stories and characters and fresh material instead of merely rehashing the same things. Jurassic Park III is a perfect example while bringing back Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant. The third installment is so underrated and still my favorite in the movie franchise. It may have gotten panned by some critics and audiences, but I say Jurassic Park III is definitely worth seeing again.
