The Wolf's Call

The Wolf's Call is one of the greatest submarine films nobody's heard of.

Presented by Netlfix, the French film (also titled Le Chant Du Loup) is unlike most other submarine movies in that it focuses on acoustic warfare using sonar, and a large portion of the film takes place on land. On top of that, The Wolf's Call somehow interjects a love story subplot into a political action thriller.

A movie that's ultimately about sound may not sound appealing (see what I did there?), but The Wolf's Call has very suspenseful and eerie action sequences with claustrophobic scenes. The film has been masterfully written, directed, shot, and edited. And while Crimson Tide remains my all-time favorite submarine film, The Wolf's Call comes in at a close second.
