Autómata

Autómata borrows heavily from I, Robot and Blade Runner, and its cinematography rivals Ridley Scott's sci-fi masterpiece. Released in 2014, Autómata is a Spanish-Bulgarian movie, but the film's language is English. It stars Antonio Banderas, along with his then-wife, Melanie Griffith, and an unrecognizable Dylan McDermott as co-stars.

Autómata takes place in the year 2044 when the ROC Corporation creates robots to aid human civilization after the sun's solar storms turned Earth into a wasteland and disrupted telecommunications. There are two protocols every robot complies with, like in Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics." Antonio Banderas plays an insurance agent--yes, insurance--of the ROC Corporation, looking for a so-called "clocksmith," someone who illegally alters robots.

It's hardly original and not as epic as I, Robot and groundbreaking as Blade Runner, but Autómata is worth checking out, especially if you're a fan of science fiction.
