Outpost: Black Sun

I admit I'm not a big fan of zombie and gory horror films, but I've started liking war action horror movies. It may be a niche subgenre, but one major movie release in the category was 2018's Overlord, co-produced by J.J. Abrams.

Released in 2008, Outpost (not to be confused with The Outpost from 2020) is a British film about a group of mercenaries hired to escort and protect an engineer surveying a mysterious site in Eastern Europe. The destination turns out to be a Nazi bunker, but it's no ordinary bunker, as the mercenaries quickly discover.

The sequel, Outpost: Black Sun, bridges where the first film left off, and a Nazi hunter and another engineer further unravel the mysteries of the bunker. (There's a third installment titled Outpost III: Rise of the Spetsnaz, but it's a prequel.)

With first-rate writing, cast, action, and cinematography, the Outpost film series is a gem, and I hope to see the storyline of the first two movies continue.
