Skyfire

Skyfire is one of the greatest action disaster films nobody has heard of, except maybe in China. A while back, I casually mentioned Skyfire in a blog entry, and now I want to feature the film in Ted's MOVIE OF THE WEEK.

Skyfire is about a theme park built on a volcano, and then it all goes downhill from there. The premise is similar to Jurassic Park, but the screenplay is intelligent and original, with excellent characters and a human story.

While Skyfire is a Chinese production, it's directed by British filmmaker Simon West, whose name may be unfamiliar, but he's the underrated director behind the action hits Con Air and The Expendables 2. Skyfire also features one of my favorite actors, Jason Isaacs.

Skyfire takes place in China, but it's worth reminding that natural disasters don't discriminate against race or social groups.

With its entertainment value as high as my other favorite disaster films, like The Tower, San AndreasGeostorm, and The Day After Tomorrow, Skyfire is a must-see flick, and I hope audiences worldwide discover this movie gem.
