Army of Thieves

Army of Thieves is an unusual prequel because it's in a different genre than its successor, Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which is primarily a zombie movie.

As another exclusive title on Netflix, Army of Thieves references the zombie apocalypse in the U.S. from Army of the Dead, but Army of Thieves is a heist action comedy with a bit of a love story.

Matthias Schweighöfer reprised his role as the safecracker from Army of the Dead, Ludwig Dieter, but as it turned out, that's not his real name. Our hero is the opposite of the usual Hollywood tough guy, which makes his unassuming character more interesting and comical.

Matthias Schweighöfer is not only the lead actor, as I later learned that he also directed Army of Thieves. He's equally accomplished behind the camera as he is in front of it, and I'd like to see the German actor do more Hollywood films.

Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of zombie movies, and I had little expectations for Army of Thieves, but it surprised me and turned out to be a really excellent and funny movie.
