John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

I can't forget the time I saw John Wick in 2014. I didn't keep up with the development of the film and don't recall watching the trailer. I just heard some buzz about a new Keanu Reeves movie, and I walked into a fully packed auditorium.

I didn't know what to expect. The movie started rather slowly, then came the "revenge" action fight sequence in the home, and I was like 🤩.

Keanu Reeves famously did his own stunts and slick fight moves, but John Wick also introduced a fresh fighting and action style to the cinema, inspiring the fight choreography in other films, like Extraction and Nobody.

With its colorful and eccentric characters, the John Wick film series is ripe for spin-offs, and such is the case with the upcoming Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. This movie is based on Rooney, introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, but she had a very small role and no dialogue. She was the ballerina practicing on stage while John Wick was talking to his "mother." That Rooney was played by a real-life ballet dancer, Unity Phelan.

I love Ana de Armas in No Time To Die, as the Cuban actress demonstrated she can both act and do action exceptionally, and I can't wait to see Ballerina.

The cinematography of the John Wick films has been as memorable as their characters. But when I saw Halle Berry in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, I thought she was so good, and her character, Sofia, is John Wick's equal. Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry are about the same age, and I was blown away (no pun intended) by how well Berry could pull off some of the same moves as Reeves.

I think Sofia deserves her own film, and there's already a backstory about her daughter.

Producers, are you listening!?!

Instead of just rehashing old material, the John Wick film series tries new things with each installment. Even Charon, the concierge at the The Continental Hotel, played by Lance Reddick, got in on some of the action in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. And may he rest in peace.

John Wick is one of those film series you must watch from the beginning to fully understand the movies. In fact, John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum follows immediately after Chapter 2 when John Wick gets excommunicated and has less than an hour to escape before the bounty on his life goes into effect. Choosing one John Wick film as the favorite isn't easy because they're all spectacular. But if I had to pick one, I think it would be John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, partly because of Halle Berry.
