Batman Begins

Long before Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins. He didn't get the part, but Murphy did great as Dr. Crane, aka Scarecrow, in the film.

I've showcased a few Christopher Nolan films in MOVIE OF THE WEEK (Tenet, Man of Steel, Memento, Inception), and while I hate to be called a fanboy, the success of Nolan's movies speaks for themselves.

I'm doing a Dark Knight trilogy movie marathon this holiday, and the first installment, Batman Begins, has held up very well after so many years.

Released in 2005, Batman Begins was the film that made me a huge fan of Christopher Nolan. Batman Begins did for DC Comics what Blade did for Marvel, bringing a gritty realism to movies based on comic book superheroes. Batman Begins was also co-written by one of my favorite screenwriters, David S. Goyer (Blade, Man of Steel, Dark City), and in addition to the first-rate writing, it has an exceptional cast and direction.

Batman Begins has earned my prestigious 5-star rating, and it's still my top favorite movie about the Caped Crusader. If you can catch it in theaters this Batman Day (September 16, 2023), check out the Dark Knight trilogy on the big screen.
