The Meg

I did not know megalodons actually existed. They could grow to as long as approximately 60 feet--about three times bigger than a great white--and, surprisingly, somebody didn't make a major movie about megalodons sooner.

I'm a big Jason Statham fan and his movies, but I was left unimpressed when I first saw The Meg in the theater back in 2018. I decided to watch it again over the weekend before seeing its sequel, Meg 2: The Trench, and I'm wondering why I didn't appreciate the film as much the first time around.

Based on the novel, The Meg is a cross between Jaws and The Abyss, but it's not your average monster movie. It has a great cast, characters, and action, and like The Abyss, a very grounded human story. It may not be an iconic film like Steven Spielberg's classic Jaws, but The Meg is family-friendly entertainment with plenty of humor.
