The Report

Of all the villains in movies and television, the ones we see frequently without fail are politicians.

It's funny how so many people always scorn and complain about the government, yet we elected these officials to serve in the government for us. Sure, many government officials haven't exactly established themselves as being trustworthy, and understandably, many despise them, particularly those serving in Congress.

Politicians are often portrayed as bad or evil, and in real life, we usually only see them in some committee hearing or TV news interviews. But people rarely see them working "behind the scenes" in government.

There are countless movies about U.S. Presidents, but hardly any show members of Congress in a positive light.

But there is one exception.

From Amazon Studios and released in 2019, The Report is about the U.S. Senate's investigation into the CIA's highly controversial methods of interrogating suspected terrorists after 9/11.

Adam Driver is the lead investigator, Daniel Jones, and Annette Bening plays Senator Dianne Feinstein, who chaired the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

While there are some appalling scenes of so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques" (EITs) in the film, The Report gives an intriguing insight into the inner workings and politics of Congress and various U.S. government agencies that are rarely seen by the general public.

Indeed, many government officials have been corrupt and exhibited criminal behavior, but they're not all bad. Most have been genuinely public servants, and one of them was a Senator representing California. For a glimpse into her world and contributions, I highly recommend seeing The Report.

Rest in peace, Dianne Feinstein.
