The Greatest Showman

When I was in high school, I did the sound effects for play productions of The Sound of Music and The King and I. As many times as I have heard the same songs night after night during rehearsals, I never got tired of listening to them, a testament to the music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

I grew up watching musicals as a little kid, but live-action musical films are indeed rare in this day of movie reboots and sequels. The Greatest Showman is such a rarity.

I initially didn't have much expectations for The Greatest Snowman, but I thoroughly enjoyed the film and the excellent songwriting. The movie is loosely based on P.T. Barnum, co-founder of the world-renowned circus bearing his name, and the starring role is played by the multi-talented Hugh Jackman, leading an all-star cast. While it did well at the box office, I think The Greatest Showman is still an underrated musical. Perhaps in time, The Greatest Showman will, too, become a classic and produced in schools, like the works of Rodgers & Hammerstein.
