Reminiscence

Some people want to forget the past, while, for others, it can bring them joy.

Reminiscence didn't do well at the box office, but it's a criminally underappreciated film with its A-list cast. Hugh Jackman reunites with his The Greatest Showman co-star Rebecca Ferguson, and they're joined by Thandiwe Newton, but, in my opinion, Daniel Wu's performance as the crime boss "Saint Joe" was a standout.

Reminiscence is a captivating blend of sci-fi, film noir, and thriller, brilliantly written and directed by Lisa Joy. Her husband is Jonathan Nolan, the brother of Christopher Nolan, and he served as one of the movie's producers. They may not be well known, but Lisa and Jonathan created the Westworld TV series on HBO Max.

Moreover, Memento is based on Jonathan Nolan's short story, and he and his brother wrote The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.

With its complex plot, I didn't appreciate Reminiscence as much the first time I saw it, but after seeing it again, I think it's one of the greatest thrillers that cleverly mixes with science fiction.

Lisa Joy is an outstanding director, and I look forward to more collaborations from the husband-and-wife team — just like Christopher Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas.
