She may not be world-famous, but Mimi Leder was a trailblazing action female director on par with Kathryn Bigelow. Her feature film directorial debut was The Peacemaker with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman, followed by a disaster movie in 1998.
Deep Impact has the same premise as Armageddon, which coincidentally came out in the same year, except it's more plausible and serious. With an all-star cast, Deep Impact is another forgotten film that's superbly directed and worth another look.
