Civil War

"One of the tech executives interviewed in the film was asked what he was most worried about regarding the harmful effects of social media. His reply was there could be a civil war."

That's an excerpt from my blog post about The Social Dilemma, and when I first heard that comment, I thought, "Nah, how would that be possible now?"

Then came January 6, 2021.

From writer and director Alex Garland (Dredd, Ex Machina), Civil War is a nightmarish but very plausible movie in which America has found itself again in the midst of a civil war.

The film follows journalists on their way to Washington, D.C., to try to interview the President. Along the way, they encounter various characters and situations that are directly related to the conflict. The film's pacing can be slow at times, but the realistic scenarios and action—especially the climactic ending—make up for it.

We are living in some dangerously crazy times, like in some episode of The Twilight ZoneHumankind is supposed to advance, but in recent years, it seems we're going through De-Evolution. With all the absurd politics and mass shootings, nothing seems shocking anymore. We have indeed become numb.

But come any Election Day, we cannot afford to be apathetic. Otherwise, we could end up experiencing Civil War in real life.
