Dolemite Is My Name

Comedians have made some of the best drama actors. Robin Williams immediately comes to mind, and I've always believed he should have won Best Actor for his performance in Dead Poets Society.

Eddie Murphy was a trailblazer and another one of my heroes who I loved watching when I was growing up in the '80s. I was particularly blown away by his outstanding performance in The Nutty Professor remake, especially under all that makeup.

Based on the life of a real-life comedian, Rudy Ray Moore, Dolemite Is My Name is another film that showcases Eddie Murphy's exceptional comedial and drama-acting talents. But I especially love the scenes with Wesley Snipes. Murphy and Snipes have such great onscreen chemistry that they should have done more films together.

Rudy Ray Moore is not well-known, and his sense of humor is, shall we say, for a mature, niche audience, but his life story is one of the greatest underdog stories, and he became the inspiration for many rap artists who followed.

Dolomite Is My Name is one of the most uplifting biopics, and it's Eddie Murphy in one of his most memorable performances yet. If you haven't seen it, Dolemite Is My Name is another highly recommended movie from Netflix.
