The Sum of All Fears

I have all the Jack Ryan films in my movie collection, and while The Hunt for Red October may be universally acclaimed, The Sum of All Fears has become forgotten and underappreciated.

There are so many scenes in films that involve U.S. Presidents in end of the world scenarios, the nuclear football, and weapons of mass destruction that it has become a movie clichΓ©.

But there's a gritty realism and high plausibility about The Sum of All Fears, which is what I really appreciate about the film, in addition to its exceptional story.

Compared to other movies based on the Tom Clancy character, The Sum of All Fears hardly has any action and is not as Hollywoodized (yes, that's a real word), but, nevertheless, it's not just an excellent Jack Ryan film. The Sum of All Fears is one of the best political thrillers ever, and while it is fiction, it is as relevant now as when it came out over 20 years ago.
