Beverly Hills Cop II

Did you know Sylvester Stallone was considered for the leading role in Beverly Hills Cop? He tried rewriting the script, which would have made the movie much less of a comedy.

Eddy Murphy had already broken into Hollywood in the 1980s with successful films like 48 Hours and Trading Places, but Beverly Hills Cop is my favorite film series with the Saturday Night Live alum.

For over two decades, I had been saying a Beverly Hills Cop sequel was overdue. It took 30 years, but Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F didn't disappoint. It was terrific and a lot of fun, and it ties a lot to the movie series' second installment.

Beverly Hills Cop II, directed by legendary filmmaker Tony Scott, is still my favorite of all the films in the franchise. With the countless times I've seen the movie, it's surprising I still catch little details I missed in previous viewings.

Buddy cop movies are usually about a pair of cops, but a Beverly Hills Cop film wouldn't be the same without Rosewood and Taggart on the case with Axel Foley.

John Ashton didn't appear in too many major films after Midnight Run and Beverly Hills Cop II, so I was delighted to see him reprise his role for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F as Taggart. He's a great actor whose performances were always memorable, and I wish I could have seen him more in movies.

Rest in peace, John Ashton.
