The Italian Job (2003)

Thinking of the late Paul Walker, I recently did a Fast & Furious movie marathon and noticed an Easter egg in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. In the spin-off film, Jason Statham's character, Deckard Shaw, talks about his collection of cars, one of which is a Mini Cooper. In the scene, Shaw said he had just done a job in Italy, a reference to the film The Italian Job from 2003, in which Statham was also in.

The Italian Job is a remake, but its plot differs significantly from the original 1969 film with Michael Caine. One thing both movies have in common is the heist sequence with the Mini Coopers.

The Italian Job features an all-star cast with Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton, Mark Wahlberg, and Charlize Theron and was directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Fate of the Furious). Coincidentally, Jason Statham and Charlize Theron have become regulars in the Fast & Furious franchise.

There have been so many remakes in recent years, but The Italian Job from 2003 is among the best of them and, in my humble opinion, a slight improvement over the original movie.
