Blade II

It was delightfully awesome to see Wesley Snipes reprise his role as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. Funnily, Ryan Reynolds has played multiple superheroes from both Marvel and DC comics and even a different Marvel superhero named Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.

Blade, from 1998, has been highly praised for its contribution to the superhero movie genre and financially saved Marvel back in the day. Followed by two sequels, discussions surrounding the production of the third installment (Blade: Trinity) seem to have overshadowed the second film. Directed by Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Hellboy) and written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel), Blade II may not have been widely discussed on the Internet, but it's an underrated and outstanding follow-up to the first film.

You can watch Blade II without the first film, but I'd watch Blade first to understand and appreciate the characters and their back story. The Blade movies are some of the best superhero films before the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe came along.

Kris Kristofferson has appeared in the entire Blade Trilogy, but he has the most screen time in the second film, which focuses on his character, Whistler.

I've always known Kris Kristofferson more as an actor than a musician. But he's had highly successful careers as a musician and an actor, earning accolades for film and country music. He was a janitor, helicopter pilot, and Army veteran and collaborated with Johnny Cash, along with other famous musicians. If anyone can personify the American Dream, it's Kris Kristofferson. May you rest in peace.
